Tholanian Corvan (meaning True Son of the Lord, of the Legendary Forest), is the 4th son of the Baron Sumvanian (Lord of River and Forest).

The Corvans have ruled over their part of Semberholme for generations. (In the Dalelands - Cormanthor - Semberholme - on and near the Ashaba river) Their castle overlooks a narrow rapids on the Ashaba river, and provide the locks to allow river transportation to continue north from Ashabaford. It is also with this set of locks that the Corvan family and their surrounding villages trade with the rest of the country. The Corvan's people bring in furs and other forest products such as truffles, herbs, syrup, pine needle basketwork, etc. They have also developed quite a market for specially made wood products --- the trees for these very special products must have been felled by natural means (since the wood elfs respect and revere the forest). These means could be lightning, beavers, landslides, big winds, etc. Because these trees are so rare, the products made from them are very rare and special -- and bring very high prices.

Sumvanian's eldest son (Sellanian - High Son of the Lord) will inherit the title and lands. He is also the family representative to the Elf Council. The second son (Aellanian - Knight Son of the Lord) will become part of the army for Carmanthor. The third son (Maralanian - Priest Son of the Lord) will be part of the Temple of Angharradh (FRp239). These are the traditional positions for the first 3 sons of a Baron.

This leaves Tholanian, the fourth son, with no real place in inheritance. During his youth, Tholanian learned from each of his brothers -- not needing to specialize in leading the family or business, fighting skills, or religion, he has picked up some knowledge in each. He has had to run the family business when Sellanian was at Council meetings, and so has learned to deal with the different people and races that traded up the river Ashaba. He was Aellanian's sparring partner in fighting training, and has been the family representative at Maralanian's services. It was also through Maralanian that Tholanian has come to appreciate the worship of Lliira (FRp234). While Angharrach is an Elven god, Lliira is worshipped by many of the other races, and if Tholanian is to travel in the world, a diety worshipped by others may be very helpful.

Because there is no real place for Tholanian in the family structure, he has decided to travel throughout the world for awhile, discovering all that he can. (This is somewhat similar to the Victorians taking the Grand Tour -- well-off young men travelling throughout Europe and the Near East in their late teens, prior to settling down)

He has left his family's castle on the Ashaba River and traveled to Ashabenford. The Innkeeper, Holfast, of the White Hart Inn has always been a friend of the Corvan family, so Tholanian will stay here. He knows many sites and people in the town -- including Lhuin's Fine Leathers, The Velvet Veil, Multhimmer's, the Horsewater Pool, Almaes', and the Barracks.

Tholanian's current plans are to stay in Ashabaford for a short time. If there is no one or anything to pique his interest, he plans to travel along the track to Essembra, and from there along the Rauthauvyr's Road to his destiny.
